In Loving Memory of Roger Gerald Hicks**

**November 28, 1936 – July 23, 2026**

Roger Gerald Hicks—known fondly to family and friends as "Jerry" —passed away peacefully in Los Angeles, California, on July 23, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Bakersfield, California, on November 28, 1936, Jerry lived a rich, full, and adventurous life defined by curiosity, storytelling, and an unmistakable zest for living.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he distinguished himself as a skilled sharpshooter—a precision and discipline that carried through into his many lifelong pursuits.

A man of many talents and deep passions, Jerry embraced the world with enthusiasm. Whether he was carving down a mountain on skis, navigating open waters on a sailboat, or taking to the skies as a pilot, he loved the thrill of motion and travel. A natural entrepreneur and word enthusiast, he created and published his own racing newspaper in the Phoenix area, combining his sharp eye for detail with a passion for motorsports. Jerry also spent time teaching English, sharing wisdom on Quora, and expressing his keen observation of the human experience through poetry and short stories. His artistic eye was equally evident in his photography, particularly his striking black-and-white portraits and beachscapes that captured beauty in its purest form. Jerry was also a charismatic spirit who loved great conversation and the company of women throughout his journey.

Jerry is survived by his three daughters, Kimberly, Jennifer, and Audrey; his six beloved grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren (with another on the way).
